 An R482G mutation is acquired during mitoxantrone selection and results in structural (transmembrane domain) and functional (substrate recognition) changes in the BCRP protein; other studies highlight the impact of the amino acid mutations at position 482 (Honjo et al., 2001; Volk et al., 2002), but this does not explain the differences noted in this and other studies.
