A non-synonymous single nucleotide polymorphism in the human ABCG2 gene resulting in a glutamine to lysine change at amino acid 141 (Q141K) of the protein has been shown to result in impaired transport of substrate drugs and decreased ATPase activity compared to wild-type protein (Mizuarai et al., 2004; Morisaki et al., 2005).
