Thus even though a contaminating ATPase could have led to differences in the total measured ATPase activity of the G551D versus wild-type fusion protein preparations (e.g. if the G551D mutation affected the tendency of contaminants to associate with NBD1-R-GST during its purification), these findings indicate that NBD1-R-GST is the protein responsible for the observed ATP binding and ATP hydrolysis properties of the preparation.
